Chapel Dulcinea Elopement in Austin, Texas | Dominic + Natalie
Dominic and Natalie's intimate elopement at Chapel Dulcinea was filled with laughter. The open-air, Spanish-style chapel sits just twenty minutes southwest of downtown Austin, and it's one of the most beautiful elopement settings in the Texas Hill Country. As Austin elopement photographers, we feel honored every time a couple invites us to document their wedding day, and Dominic and Natalie's was such a joy to be part of.
Our Approach to Elopement Photography
Dominic and Natalie wanted something more meaningful than a quick civil ceremony, but smaller than a full wedding day. Chapel Dulcinea ended up being the perfect answer for the intentional, intimate day they had in mind.
As Chapel Dulcinea elopement photographers, we blend documentary-inspired candids with romantic editorial portraits, and a day like theirs is exactly where that balance shines! During the ceremony and the unscripted moments around it, we lean fully into documentary mode, quietly capturing what's actually happening so that nothing feels manufactured. Then during the portrait window, we shift gears and step in with intentional direction, offering gentle prompts and posing so that our couples feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. The result is a gallery that gives you both the candid moments that feel true to the day and the editorial portraits that feel timeless and artful.
An Intimate Chapel Dulcinea Wedding Ceremony
At 2 PM, Natalie walked down the aisle to Dominic. They had chosen to skip a first look, saving the first time they would see each other for this exact moment. And you could feel the weight of it as she came toward him: Dominic teared up the second he saw her.
Natalie's brother officiated, and from the very first moment, you could feel all three of them holding back tears. There is something so beautifully tender about a sibling stepping up to lead a ceremony like that. And then Dominic opened his vows with a joke about Natalie blocking him on Instagram, and the whole chapel erupted in laughter. That single moment captured their entire relationship perfectly!
Natalie was absolutely stunning in a strapless corset-bodice dress with a long veil. Dominic looked so handsome in his green suit. Behind them, a simple white-and-greenery floral arch beautifully framed the chapel's arched wooden door, with the Hill Country falling away into the distance. After their vows, rings, and a kiss, they walked through the chapel doors together to ring the bell.
Ringing the bell is the signature tradition at Chapel Dulcinea, and it is one of our absolute favorite moments to photograph! Once you say your vows, you walk straight to the bell tower at the front of the chapel and pull the rope yourselves, sending the joyful news of your marriage out over the Hill Country. It is a tradition that has been carried on for as long as churches have had bells, originally meant to call communities together to celebrate. Dominic and Natalie rang the bell together, laughing, and we caught some of our favorite frames from the day in that little window of time.
Portraits Around Chapel Dulcinea
After the ceremony, we shifted into the portrait window with Dominic and Natalie. This is where the editorial side of our work really takes the lead, and we love bringing intentional direction to help our couples feel comfortable as we craft elevated, artful imagery together. The chapel itself, the arches, and the overlook are all such stunning portrait spots, but our absolute favorite was the bell tower. There's a sweet little stone bench built right into the wall there, tucked into the cool shade of the tower itself. As soon as we sat them down, the breeze caught the bells overhead, and they chimed softly the entire time we were working. There they were, newly married, sitting in the quiet, with the bells ringing just for them. It was one of the most beautiful little moments of the whole day.
Kind Words from Dominic + Natalie
"We had our wedding at Chapel Dulcinea and the Shens were WONDERFUL to work with! They had great communication leading up to our ceremony, gave great direction on poses, and we had a crazy quick turnaround on our sneak peek photos. We loved working with them and our big day would not have been the same without them!" — Dominic + Natalie
Tips for Planning Your Chapel Dulcinea Elopement
With its Spanish-style architecture, stone bell tower, and sweeping Hill Country views, Chapel Dulcinea is one of the most beautiful elopement venues near Austin. If you're dreaming about your own Chapel Dulcinea elopement, here are a few things we'd love for you to know as you plan:
Reserve your slot early: The chapel offers 90-minute ceremony slots that you book directly through their website. Weekend slots fill up especially fast, so the moment you have a date in mind, we highly recommend reserving it right away.
Don't stress about the time of day: Most photographers will tell you to chase sunset, but the truth is, a good photographer will find the beautiful in any light. Dominic and Natalie were married at 2 PM under the bright May sun and their gallery turned out absolutely stunning! And if you love a moodier feel, the chapel's Night Flame slot (8:30 to 10 PM) lights the entire space with 16 gas lanterns for an incredibly romantic ceremony under the stars.
Plan around the open-air setting: Chapel Dulcinea has no walls, no air conditioning, and no heating, so dress for whatever the Hill Country gives you that day! And don't stress if rain is in the forecast, because a rainy day at the chapel is honestly one of the most romantic settings you could ask for. The chapel does allow you to reschedule for inclement weather, but they don't issue refunds.
Keep your guest count intimate: The chapel can technically host up to about sixty guests with patio overflow, but we'd recommend staying closer to twenty or thirty if you want the day to feel truly connected and personal.
Don't miss the bell tower for portraits: It's our absolute favorite spot on the property, especially when the wind catches the bells. The arches at the chapel entrance and the overlook are also must-stops for portraits.
Arrive early to make the most of your time: Chapel Dulcinea allows couples to arrive up to 30 minutes before their slot starts, and we highly recommend taking full advantage of every minute! Use that time to park, check in, get settled in the getting-ready spaces, and just take a breath. If you wait to arrive right at the start of your time slot, you'll eat into the 90 minutes you actually have at the chapel, and everything from getting dressed to portraits ends up compressed.
